Detroit's Motown Records 50th anniversary gala announced

Motown turned 50 in January, 2009, and the party isn’t over yet.
It has been confirmed by officials at the Detroit Motown Museum, Berry Gordy Jr. and other stars who Gordy launched their careers, will celebrate Motown Records 50th anniversary at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center on Nov. 21.
The gala will feature Stevie Wonder and the Temptations and will be hosted by Sinbad.
This will be the first gathering of the Motown family since Michael Jackson’s death five months ago and Gordy said a tribute to Jackson will be part of the celebration.
Berry Gordy Jr., was a boxer, assembly line worker and songwriter in January, 1959, when he used $800 to start Motown Records Corp. in Detroit.

Unlike a private event five years ago to mark Motown's 45th anniversary, this gala is open to the public.
