2016 Olympics announcement time: Chicago is out, Rio to host (updated)

Chicago was eliminated on the first vote today as host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics, stunning people in Chicago eagerly anticipating the vote.

That left Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo as the remaining candidates, with Rio de Janeiro winning the final vote to host the 2016 Games.

A large crowd gathered in downtown Chicago to monitor the vote and seemed shocked when the city was eliminated on the first vote.

The International Olympic Committee will announce the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics today in Copenhagen at about 10 a.m. Pacific time.

IOC members vote by secret ballot until one city receives a majority. The city receiving the fewest votes is eliminated after each round. Each city will makes 45-minute presentations to the IOC members today, with another 15 minutes for questions and answers. President Obama is in Copenhagen to help stump for votes for Chicago.
