Reitz four pardoning to be scrutinised

While the University of the Free State says it supports Professor Jonathan Jansen, the Higher Education Board will meet on Tuesday to test his decision to pardon the so-called Reitz four over a controversial racist video they made.
Jansen has come under fire for allowing the students back onto campus. Recently he announced the university was doing this in the interest of reconciliation.
The young men are facing charges of crimen injuria for allegedly making black cleaning staff take part in humiliating initiation tasks, including eatinf meat which the students had apparently urinated on.
They appeared in court on Monday and the case was postponed to February next year.
Hundreds of protestors gathered outside the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court to protest against the men’s actions. The Free State African National Congress’ Teboho Sifisa said the demonstration was not racist.
“This has never been a black versus white issue; it has always been a matter against racism. It is not only blacks who are against racism; we also want white compatriots to protest,” said Sifisa.
On Wednesday, anyone who has concerns about Jansens decision will be allowed to meet the university management.
