Columbus Day celebration

Washington: The United States have been geared up to observe Columbus Day on October 12, 2009.

The people of America celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the America as Columbus Day every year.

On October 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus arrived in America on his world mission to find other nations on earth.

The Columbus Day is being observed in many countries since late 20th century.

In the United state it was declared holiday in the late 18th century.

The Columbus Day celebration is observed in several ways.

In the United States, the day is celebrated as Dia de la Raza (Day of the (Hispanic) race). In other parts the day is observed as Dia de las Culturas (Day of the Cultures) in Costa Rica, as Dia de las Americas (Day of the Americas) in Uruguay, as Discovery Day in The Bahamas, as Día de la Hispanidad and Fiesta Nacional in Spain, and as Dia de la Resistencia Indigena (Day of Indigenous Resistance) in Venezuela.
