Steve Lagakos

The Harvard School of Public Health researcher Steve Lagakos dies. He is world renowned researcher for the fight against HIV and AIDS. He died at the age of 63. Professor Steve Lagakos was killed in an accident in New Hampshire. According to police his car collided with on coming car on route 202. His mother and wife along with him were also killed in the accident. Stephen Krause of Keene, who was driver of other car also died.
He is remembered as a brilliant scientist. Victor Gruttola, Chair of the school’s Biostatistics Department told
“His role was fundamental …. in all of the tremendous improvement in treatment of HIV by helping to improve and create new approaches and design.”
He also establishes fellowship programs for foreign students. The students get training in the school of public health and return back to their country and apply those learning.
Steve Lagakos was working in the Harvard School of Public Health for over 30 years and he was founder of the Center for Biostatics and AIDS research. Gruttola said
“He used the classroom as a lab to understand what was important in the real world and take action, He bridged the worlds of academia and government and industry. He touched people directly.”
The Dean of Academic Affairs emailed the Harvard School of Public Health community and wrote
“Steve was always generous with his time- both in statistical matters, and also as a citizen of Harvard, having served with good cheer and much wisdom on many committees and given sage advice to many.”
