Hitting theaters October 16, The Stepfatheris a remake of the 1987 movie of the same name starring Terry O’Quinn (from Lost). It tells the story of Michael Harding (Penn), who returns home from military school to find that his mother (Sela Ward) is living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As Michael gets to know the guy, he becomes more and more suspicious of him. Along with his girlfriend Kelly (Amber Heard) Susan’s friends (Paige Turco and Sherry Stringfield), Michael begins to unravel the mystery of the man who is set to become his stepfather. Will he find the truth in time?
What do you guys think? Is The Stepfather a fun opportunity to see Penn do something different, or just another dumb horror movie? I hate to admit it, but I think I’m voting for the latter…but it seems like Penn may understand my apprehension about horror movies. In an interview with JustJared, Penn said, “It’s actually very good – I think you’re going to be surprised by how not bad it is. No, I mean, most thrillers are so bad generally and this one is really surprisingly solid. And hopefully people will see that it’s not full of twists and turns and blood and gore it’s just a simpler, better movie.” Source www.twirlit.com
