Hartford Marathon 2009 Winners Cross Finish Line

The 16th annual ING Hartford Marathon 2009 is underway in Bushnell Park. Runners are already starting to cross the finish line, including winner Patrick Moulton of Rhode Island. Moulton, who won $6,000, finished in 2 hours, 25 minutes, 21 seconds in the 26.2 mile Hartford Marathon today.
Whether running, volunteering or joining the thousands of people cheering along the course route, the Hartford Marathon is a big event. Race day activities include: Marathon, Half Marathon, Team Relay, 5k and Kids K.
The ING Hartford Marathon has been selected as a "green" race by United States by the Council for Responsible Sport and it is a model. They received the prestigious Gold Certification for green sporting events. CRS certifies sustainable athletic events which are environmentally responsible and which meet its guidelines in five criteria: waste, climate, materials/equipment, community/outreach, and health promotion.
The event uses a Fuel Cell bus to transfer the elite and the relay teams, a Fuel Cell car for the lead vehicle, renewable energy credits, and reusable water bottles.
Events for families, runners and anyone attending the Hartford Marathon will go on all day. There is a post-race party after the conclusion of the ING Hartford Marathon. This will be a family-friendly block party on Trumbull Street from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
As the winners cross the finish line, results are being spread across the Internet. Crowds will be cheering over 8,000 runners as they cross the finish line at the Harford Marathon. Follow the marathon via the Hartford Marathon Twitter page (@runhmf) or on their Facebook fan page.
