On Tonight: 'Ugly Betty' Returns, 'Bartender Wars'

One of the last network shows to begin its new season is "Ugly Betty" (ABC, 8 p.m.), which returns with a two hour episode. By now, Betty Suarez, the spirited and hardworking caeer woman played by America Ferrera, has finally lost her poncho as she takes on a new job, associate features editor at "Mode."  She won't get her braces off until the middle of the season.
 As cheery as she is on the job, nobody can be happy about the new time slot for the show, since Fridays is generally where shows go to die. Daniel has his own mourning to do, of Molly. And Lynn Redgrave and Kristen Johnston are among the guest stars.
Elsewhere, the new "Bartender Wars" (FLN, 10:30 p.m.) pits three New York City bartenders against one another in skills and challenges.
A new "Law & Order" (NBC, 8 p.m.) plays with the Octomom story.
The seventh season finale for "Real Time with Bill Maher" (HBO, 10 p.m.) features Alec Baldwin, Chris Matthews and Martin O'Malley as roundtable guests and Alan Grayson and Garry Shandling as interview guests.
It's the season finale of "Psych" (USA, 10 p.m.) centers on an ice cream truck.
Postseason baseball finally makes network TV with Game 1 of the American League Championship Series with Angels at Yankees (Fox, 7:30 p.m.). Earlier, it's Game 2 of the NCLS with Phillies at Dodgers (TBS, 4:30 p.m.).
In hockey, it's Bruins at Stars (NESN, 8:30 p.m.). In preseason basketball, Nets at Knicks (MSG, 7:30 p.m.). And in college football, it's Pittsburgh at Rutgers (ESPN, 8 p.m.).
Dan Brown talks about his new book with Matt Lauer in "Secrets of the Lost Symbol" (NBC, 9 p.m.).
The documentary "A Night at the Movies: The Suspenseful World of Thrillers" (TCM, 9:30 p.m.) is replayed amid another night of thrillers, this one based in crime, with "The Narrow Margin" (TCM, 8 p.m.), "Lured" (TCM, 10:30 p.m.) and "The Lodger" (TCM, 12:30 a.m.). Later, it's David Cronenberg's weird "Videodrome" (TCM, 2 a.m.), paired with "Terrorvision" (TCM, 3:45 a.m.).
