Somer Thompson: Child’s Body Found In Georgia Landfill

Somer Thompson, the 7 year old Florida girl missing since Monday, has not been found, but a child’s body found in a Georgia Landfill has lessened hopes that the child will be found alive. Officials have not yet made a positive identification of Somer Thompson, but authorities did find a child’s body in a Georgia landfill, and according to the Sheriff in charge of the investigation the garbage came from the same area as where Somer went missing.

Rick Beseler, the Clay County Sheriff, stated:
“We hope and pray that it’s not the body of Somer, but the garbage that was brought into that area … was collected in the Orange Park area,”
The landfill is approximately an hour away from where Somer Thompson went missing while walking home from school on Monday afternoon. The Chesser Island Road Landfill in Southern Georgia is where the body was discovered. According to this story, landfill searches are extremely difficult given the nature of the search location.
Somer reportedly got into an argument with some other children she was walking home with and ran ahead of the group she was walking with. When her siblings arrived home she was not there and authorities were contacted. It is being reported, here, that Somer’s father has spoken with detectives who have reported that a circular birthmark found on the child’s leg matches a description of a similar birthmark located on Somer.
Presently no suspect has been identified in the case. The landfill was searched as a routine part of the investigation, and not based on any tips given to authorities.
